The study reviewed an internet survey with the sexual habits of both women and men aged 18-59, and found participants consistently rated having safe sex as 'extremely arousing and extremely enjoyable' - getting the same score as having un-protected sex using their partner.



Dr Jane Goldrik, in the College of Sexual Health-Remington, Dublin University, Ireland who carried out the research said: 'This is probably because men're more likely than their female counterparts to buy condoms and to use the condoms.



'But, it’s very important more women become knowledgeable about the contraception they utilize making use of their lover in order that they are able to make choices that will enhance the safety and enjoyable nature of these sex.'



The continent wide European study also discovered that most men did not find it hard to achieve or keep an erection when applying a condom.
